PASTOR'S MESSAGE

Transforming God's People

We're glad you stopped by our site for a visit.

Pastor Janet Reid
The Reverend Ms. Janet Reid

NEW HOPE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH cares. We care, because Christ cares.  If you are a caring person seeking a caring people with whom to worship, New Hope is for you.  Though we are not a perfect people, we are filled with God’s compassion and mercy.  We put Christ’s love in action.  We warmly invite you to come and see how God cares for us, for you, and for the world.  We are praying for you, even before you arrive.  Christ’s care comes through New Hope.

We are mindful of God’s creation, through recycling programs that benefit a community school and the area’s aging and by cultivating beautiful gardens on park-like 16 acres of God-given earth.  We love God’s creatures, leaving food and trying to provide safe haven for the small wildlife around the site. New Hope is easy to find by satellite view on the Internet, because of the large open green space!  Look at the "heavenly" aerial view under "Our Location" on this website.

We care about people of all ages in our congregation, in the community, and in the world. One way is through our committed active partnership in mission with the Presbyterian Church in Sudan, Africa.  We also actively support the local Salvation Army, Westmoreland County and a local food bank, Welcome Home family shelter in Greensburg, the Blackburn Center against domestic violence, Relay for Life, and other local programs. Also, we share our God-given space with the community. Meals-on-Wheels, Weight Watchers, Girl Scouts, and local residents regularly rent our facilities.

Currently, we are focusing on the component of our mission to "provide the opportunity for all people to grow in Christ through worship."  Our hearts stretch out to those who do not have a place and people with whom to worship, due to special circumstances. Therefore, we are care-fully devising strategies so all may worship in New Hope should they desire.  We are considering plans to benefit everyone, especially those with sight, hearing, and mobility impairments, as well as our homebound members and friends—even friends we don’t yet know!  We already provide caring church visitors and communion for persons who are homebound.  We are planning other health ministries, such as blood pressure screening, to benefit all. On April 13th, 2008, our newly renovated and handicapped accessible building, including an elevator and handicapped restrooms and seating areas in the sanctuary will be dedicated to the glory of God. Changes are underway and more are forthcoming. We are filled with excited anticipation and New Hope for what is ahead. We look forward to God’s plans for the future with New Hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

We are a people who trust that dreams do come true, when they are visions of the Holy Spirit fueled by prayer (Joel 2:28).  As we pray for you, please pray for us as we are being transformed further into the people that God intends for us to be. As the saying goes, God is not done with us yet.  Nor, until the trumpet sounds, will we be done doing what God calls us to do.  We are called to care, because Christ cares.

Come and see the beauty of Christ's care through New Hope.  Come sit in the peaceful light of our glass cross at worship in our sanctuary, hear the joyful music, and know God's love through the Word proclaimed.  Outside enjoy the garden fountain, find a bench to sit quietly under a tree, or take a peaceful walk.  Join others in one of our many ministries.  New Hope awaits you!

In Christ's New Hope,

The Reverend Ms. Janet Reid
